Accessibility Statement

Village services belong to everyone. This website is built to be usable by residents with disabilities, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, or speech input.

Our commitment

The Village of Arcanum is committed to conforming to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA (opens in a new tab). Accessibility is built directly into this site's markup and components. We do not use an accessibility overlay, toolbar, or widget, because those tools do not fix underlying barriers.

What we do to meet Level AA

  • Semantic HTML landmarks, one main heading per page, and headings in logical order.
  • A “Skip to main content” link as the first item you reach with the keyboard.
  • Every interactive control reachable and operable by keyboard, with a clearly visible focus outline.
  • Text contrast of at least 4.5:1, and at least 3:1 for large text and interface components.
  • Meaningful alternative text on images; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Form fields with visible labels, plus errors described in words — never by color alone.
  • Information never conveyed by color alone; categories and statuses always carry a text label.
  • Layouts that reflow without horizontal scrolling at 320 pixels wide and remain usable at 200% zoom.
  • Tap targets at least 44 by 44 pixels.
  • Animation reduced automatically when your device requests reduced motion; no carousels or auto-playing motion.
